Project from 1 Jan 2026 9:00 AM to 15 Apr 2026 5:30 PM
Duration: 3 months 14 days 8 hours 30 minutes. Total: 104 days 8.5 hours, or 2,504.5 hours. Useful for project closure reports with both calendar and billable-hours views.
Find the exact duration between two date-times - broken down into years, months, days, hours and minutes. Useful for project tracking, age-of-record, audit logs and contract durations.

Time duration calculator answers the question 'how long was the gap between two moments?' - with precision down to minutes. Useful for project timeline tracking ('this feature took 3 months 12 days from start to delivery'), audit logs ('order placed 14 hours 23 minutes ago'), contract duration ('this lease ran for 2 years 4 months'), record age ('this document is 7 days 8 hours old'), and SLA compliance ('ticket resolved in 2 hours 45 minutes vs 4-hour SLA'). Unlike a simple date difference calculator that gives just whole days, this tool breaks duration into years, months, days, hours and minutes - useful when both the date and the time matter.
Indian professional uses: tracking project velocity in software teams, calculating warranty remaining time, compliance time tracking (TAT for grievance redressal under various Indian regulations), travel duration between activities, exam preparation time tracking (this many hours of study over weeks/months), and audit compliance (when actions were taken relative to events). The calculator reads both inputs in your device's local timezone (IST for Indian users) and handles leap years exactly via JavaScript's Date API.

Read the duration in multiple units.
Calendar units (years, months, days) use field-by-field arithmetic with carry-down. Total days/hours/minutes use absolute milliseconds, divided by the relevant unit.
Years, months, days: field arithmetic Total hours = (End − Start) / 1 hour Total minutes = (End − Start) / 1 minute
Two views of duration: calendar breakdown (years, months, days, hours, minutes) and absolute total in each unit (total days, total hours, total minutes). Calendar breakdown is human-readable ('2 years 3 months 5 days 8 hours'). Absolute totals are useful for arithmetic ('5,840 hours of work' for billing). Both views are derived from the same underlying millisecond difference.
Calendar breakdown algorithm: subtract field by field with borrow. If end_minutes < start_minutes, borrow 60 from hours. If end_hours < start_hours, borrow 24 from days. Days: borrow days-in-previous-month from month. Then months borrow 12 from year. This produces a clean year/month/day/hour/minute breakdown that matches human intuition ('2 years 3 months') rather than 'X total days'.
Absolute totals: end_ms - start_ms gives total milliseconds. Divide by 1000 for seconds, 60000 for minutes, 3600000 for hours, 86400000 for days. These exact totals are useful for billing and analytics. Note: this calculator doesn't adjust for daylight saving time (DST) - India has no DST so this isn't relevant for IST users, but if you use it for US/EU dates around DST transitions, results may be off by an hour twice a year.
Duration: 3 months 14 days 8 hours 30 minutes. Total: 104 days 8.5 hours, or 2,504.5 hours. Useful for project closure reports with both calendar and billable-hours views.
Duration: 1 day 2 hours 45 minutes = 26.75 hours. If SLA is 48 hours, well within target. Standard for IT support and grievance redressal reporting.
Elapsed: 2 years 1 month 6 days = ~763 days. For a 3-year warranty (1095 days), 332 days remaining. Useful for tracking electronics, vehicle and appliance coverage.
Date Difference focuses on whole-day counts. Time Duration includes hours and minutes precision - useful when both date AND time matter.
Both inputs are read in your browser's local time zone. Convert manually if you need cross-timezone duration.
The calculator shows the absolute duration with a 'past' indicator. No negative values.
Leap years are exact via JavaScript Date math. DST shifts are NOT applied - minute-precise results across DST may be off by an hour twice a year.
Date math, password generation, QR codes, IP subnets, base64 encoding, dew point, dice rolls, age calculations - none of these are 'big' problems individually, but they are the small frictions that interrupt your day. This tool runs entirely in your browser, has no popup, no chat widget and no tracking inside the calculation, so you can finish the task and move on.
Many tools in the Daily Utilities category complement each other - date difference + day counter + day-of-the-week, or password generator + QR code + base64 encoder. The related-tool grid links them together so you can move between adjacent problems in a click.
The Time Duration Calculator is part of the Daily Utilities suite on Online Calculator Tools, alongside 6 related calculators. All tools share the same UI patterns, the same privacy-first rendering (nothing is sent to a server), and the same commitment to showing the formula and assumptions behind every result.
