About Home & Lifestyle calculators
Renovating, decorating or planning utilities at home almost always involves three numbers - area, volume, and cost. Get any of them wrong by 10% and you're either short of paint and tile, or you've over-bought and have to return material. Our home and lifestyle calculators sit at this intersection: real-world geometry, real-world prices, and the wastage / coverage rules that contractors actually use.
Materials estimation
The concrete calculator gives cubic feet, yards, metres and 50 kg cement bags for any slab or footing. The tile calculator handles room dimensions, tile size, tiles per box, price per box and a wastage allowance. The paint calculator computes litres, cans and cost from wall dimensions and number of coats. The roofing, stair, mulch and gravel calculators cover their respective trades with the same rigor.
Bills, electricity and AC sizing
The electricity bill calculator includes Indian state-wise tariffs (Maharashtra MSEDCL, Tamil Nadu TANGEDCO, Delhi BSES, Karnataka BESCOM, etc.) with proper slab rates, fixed charges, fuel surcharge and electricity duty. The fuel cost calculator estimates trip cost from distance and mileage. The BTU calculator sizes the right air conditioner for your room based on area, ceiling height, sun exposure, occupants and kitchen heat.
Why these defaults
Wastage defaults - 10% for tile, 5% for paint, 10% for roofing - reflect what experienced contractors typically add to account for cuts, breakages, and edge-fitting on a normal residential job. Indian cement bags are 50 kg; an M20 mix (1:1.5:3) uses roughly 6 bags per cubic metre of concrete. Tile boxes pack 2–6 tiles depending on size and brand. Every default is editable - if your contractor gives you a different wastage rate or your supplier quotes a different bag count, change it and the total updates immediately.
