Описание

Что такое Pregnancy Calculator

Pregnancy dating is the foundation of all prenatal care - every screening test, ultrasound scan, growth check and delivery decision depends on accurate gestational age. The most common method, used worldwide, is Naegele's rule: due date = first day of last menstrual period (LMP) + 280 days (40 weeks), assuming a 28-day cycle. This calculator implements Naegele's rule with cycle-length adjustment so women with shorter (21-25 day) or longer (29-35 day) cycles get a more accurate estimate than the standard formula provides.

The result is an Estimated Due Date (EDD) - emphasis on 'estimated'. Only about 5% of babies arrive exactly on their due date; the majority are delivered within 38-42 weeks. A first-trimester ultrasound (ideally between 8-12 weeks) is the gold standard for confirming pregnancy dating and typically refines the EDD within ±5-7 days. After confirmation, all subsequent prenatal care follows that ultrasound date. This calculator is most useful before the first prenatal visit, to know your approximate stage and plan accordingly.

Как работает Pregnancy Calculator

Naegele's rule estimates the due date as 280 days (40 weeks) after the first day of the last menstrual period, assuming a 28-day cycle. The calculator adjusts for longer or shorter cycles. Conception is estimated to occur around day 14 of the cycle (mid-cycle ovulation).

Formula

Due date = LMP + 280 days + (cycle − 28) days Current week = (today − LMP) / 7

Как Pregnancy Calculator получает результат

Naegele's rule was developed by Franz Karl Naegele in the 1830s and remains the most-used pregnancy dating method despite advances in ultrasound. It works because human gestation, measured from LMP, averages 280 days (40 weeks) with relatively narrow variation across populations. For women with cycles other than 28 days, the calculator adjusts by adding (cycle length − 28) days - a 30-day cycle gets +2 days; a 26-day cycle gets −2 days. This adjustment matters most early in pregnancy when planning screening windows.

Pregnancy weeks count from LMP, not from conception. So when you're told 'you're 6 weeks pregnant', the embryo itself is roughly 4 weeks old - pregnancy clock starts 2 weeks earlier than the actual biological start. This convention exists because LMP is a verifiable date for most women, while exact conception date often isn't. Trimesters are defined as: Trimester 1 (weeks 1-12, organ formation), Trimester 2 (weeks 13-26, rapid growth), Trimester 3 (weeks 27-40+, final development and weight gain).

Key prenatal milestones tied to gestational age in India: First-trimester ultrasound (8-12 weeks) for dating and viability; Double Marker test (10-13 weeks) for chromosomal screening; Anomaly scan / Level II ultrasound (18-22 weeks) for major structural abnormalities; Gestational diabetes test (24-28 weeks); Tetanus vaccination booster (at 20 and 26 weeks for first pregnancy); Iron-folic acid supplementation through pregnancy; Pre-delivery checkup (37 weeks) for labour planning. Knowing your accurate week guides timing of all these.

Примеры

Разобранные примеры

LMP: 1 January 2026, 28-day cycle, today is 1 May 2026

Due date = 1 Jan + 280 days = 8 October 2026. Today (1 May) − LMP = 120 days = 17 weeks 1 day. Trimester 2. Approaching the anomaly scan window (18-22 weeks).

LMP: 15 February 2026, 32-day cycle, today is 11 May 2026

Cycle adjustment: +4 days. Due date = 15 Feb + 280 days + 4 = 25 November 2026. Today − LMP = 85 days = 12 weeks 1 day. End of trimester 1. Should have first ultrasound and Double Marker test booked.

Где применять

Когда использовать: Pregnancy Calculator

  • Expecting parents wanting to know their due date and current pregnancy stage between doctor visits.
  • Planning prenatal screening appointments - knowing the gestational week helps schedule scans and tests at the right time.
  • Tracking pregnancy progress through trimesters and developmental milestones.
  • Family members and partners following along with the pregnancy timeline.
  • Working women planning maternity leave start dates based on the due date.
Осторожно

Типичные ошибки и подводные камни

  • Treating the due date as exact. Only 5% of babies arrive exactly on EDD; the normal range is 38-42 weeks.
  • Forgetting to adjust for cycle length. Women with cycles other than 28 days have meaningfully different EDDs than the standard formula gives.
  • Skipping the first-trimester ultrasound. It's the most accurate dating method and corrects LMP errors.
  • Counting weeks from conception instead of LMP. Most clinical guidance uses LMP-based weeks.
  • Worrying about delivery before week 37. Full-term is 37-42 weeks; before 37 is premature.

Как получить больше от инструмента

  • Book the first prenatal appointment as soon as you confirm pregnancy. Early ultrasound dating is far more accurate than calculator estimates.
  • Track your LMP - write it down. Many women forget the exact date once pregnancy is confirmed.
  • Use the gestational week to plan tests, scans and vaccinations in coordination with your obstetrician.
  • Don't over-rely on this calculator as your due date. The first-trimester scan EDD takes precedence.
  • Pair this calculator with the ovulation, conception and due-date calculators on this site for related pregnancy planning.
Вопросы

Вопросы: Pregnancy Calculator

How accurate is Naegele's rule?

It's accurate within ±1 week for most pregnancies. The most accurate dating comes from a first-trimester ultrasound (ideally 8–12 weeks), which your doctor will use to confirm.

What if I don't remember my LMP?

Talk to your doctor. A first-trimester ultrasound can date the pregnancy by measuring crown-rump length, with very high accuracy.

What are the trimesters?

Trimester 1: weeks 1–12. Trimester 2: weeks 13–26. Trimester 3: weeks 27–40. Each trimester has different developmental milestones and prenatal-care priorities.

Does the calculator account for IVF or medicated cycles?

No - it assumes natural conception with mid-cycle ovulation. For IVF/IUI cycles, doctors date pregnancy from the embryo transfer or insemination date, not LMP.

Why does the calculator say I am 2 weeks pregnant from day 1?

Pregnancy is dated from LMP, even though conception happens around day 14. So when an ultrasound says "6 weeks pregnant", the embryo is technically 4 weeks old.

Is this calculator a substitute for prenatal care?

No. Always work with a qualified obstetrician for prenatal scans, screenings, and medical advice. This calculator is for informational use only.

Track health metrics with care

Body composition, daily energy needs and pregnancy timelines all rest on formulas validated across millions of people, but no single number tells the whole story. The values from this calculator are point estimates with a known margin of error - body fat from skinfold or US Navy method has roughly a ±3% standard error compared to a DEXA scan, and BMR can vary ±10% person to person at the same height and weight. Use these numbers to track trends week over week, not to chase decimal precision day to day.

Pair this tool with the BMR, TDEE, calorie and macro calculators to turn a single measurement into an actionable plan. None of these tools are a substitute for a qualified doctor, registered dietitian or certified strength coach - but they remove the busywork so you spend more time on training and recovery, less on math.
