Add 18% GST to a ₹10,000 quotation
Net = ₹10,000. GST = 10,000 × 0.18 = ₹1,800 (₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST for intra-state). Gross = ₹11,800. This is the format you'd put on a tax invoice for a service like consulting or software development.
Add or remove GST from any amount instantly. Choose between the standard Indian GST slabs (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) or enter a custom rate. The calculator shows the GST amount, the base amount, and the gross amount with a CGST/SGST split for intra-state transactions.

GST (Goods and Services Tax) replaced the patchwork of VAT, service tax, excise duty, octroi and CST in July 2017 with a single indirect tax that applies across India. For consumers, GST is the figure tucked into the bottom of every restaurant bill, mobile-recharge receipt and online purchase. For businesses, it's the most-called formula in the back office - every invoice, every refund, every reverse-charge entry needs the math right. This calculator handles both directions: adding GST to a base price, and stripping it out of a tax-inclusive total.
The standard GST slabs (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) cover roughly 1,300 goods and 500 service categories. Most everyday items sit at 5% (basics like packaged food) or 18% (most services and consumer durables). The 12% slab covers items like processed food, mobile phones and small home appliances. The 28% slab is reserved for luxury and demerit goods - premium cars, large air conditioners, tobacco products - often with an additional compensation cess on top. The calculator lets you select any standard slab or enter a custom rate.
Enter the amount you want to calculate GST on.
Choose the mode: 'Add GST' (when the entered amount is GST-exclusive) or 'Remove GST' (when the entered amount already includes GST).
Pick a GST slab (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) or enter a custom rate.
View the net amount, GST amount, and gross amount immediately.
Use the breakdown to see CGST and SGST contributions for intra-state transactions, or IGST for inter-state.
Copy the values directly into your invoice, quotation, or accounting software - the splits are exactly what GST returns expect.
GST is a destination-based, value-added indirect tax. Each business in a supply chain charges GST on its sales, claims input tax credit (ITC) on the GST it paid on its purchases, and remits the net to the government. The total GST is split into CGST and SGST (each at half the total rate) for intra-state transactions, or charged as a single IGST for inter-state ones. Imports attract IGST plus customs duty.
Add GST: Gross = Net × (1 + GST/100) Remove GST: Net = Gross / (1 + GST/100)
GST is computed on the transaction value - the agreed price between buyer and seller, including any duties, freight, packing charges or other amounts that the seller would charge anyway. Discounts shown on the invoice are deducted before GST is applied; discounts given after the invoice (cashbacks, end-of-month deals) usually don't reduce the GST already collected.
For intra-state transactions (buyer and seller in the same state), the total GST is split evenly between CGST and SGST. An 18% intra-state sale is 9% CGST + 9% SGST; the central and state governments each receive their half. For inter-state transactions (different states or to a foreign customer with delivery in India), 100% of the GST is charged as IGST. Reverse-charge mechanism (RCM) shifts liability to the buyer for certain categories like legal services and goods bought from unregistered suppliers.
Composition Scheme rates differ. Small traders below ₹1.5 crore turnover can opt for a flat 1% (manufacturers and traders) or 5% (restaurants), without input tax credit. Service providers below ₹50 lakh can opt for a 6% composition rate. The calculator handles these as custom rates - just enter 1, 5 or 6.
Input Tax Credit changes how GST flows through the supply chain. A trader buys at ₹100 + 18% (₹18 GST), sells at ₹150 + 18% (₹27 GST), but only remits ₹9 to the government - the difference between collected and paid GST. End consumers don't claim ITC, so the full GST sits on the final retail price. The calculator computes one transaction's GST; ITC is tracked separately in your GST return.
Net = ₹10,000. GST = 10,000 × 0.18 = ₹1,800 (₹900 CGST + ₹900 SGST for intra-state). Gross = ₹11,800. This is the format you'd put on a tax invoice for a service like consulting or software development.
Gross = ₹525. Net = 525 / 1.05 = ₹500. GST = ₹25. Useful when a vendor only quotes you the inclusive price and you need to reverse-engineer the base price (for example, to claim reimbursement at the GST-exclusive amount).
Net = ₹50,000. IGST = 50,000 × 0.12 = ₹6,000. Gross = ₹56,000. Since this is inter-state, the full 12% goes to IGST - no CGST/SGST split. The buyer in another state can claim the ₹6,000 as input tax credit while filing their own GST return, neutralising the effective tax burden along the supply chain.
The standard GST slabs are 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Most services attract 18%; basics and packaged food are at 5%; mobile phones, processed food and small appliances at 12%; luxury and demerit goods at 28%. Some products at 28% also attract an additional compensation cess.
For intra-state transactions, the GST is split equally into Central GST (CGST) and State GST (SGST). For inter-state transactions, the entire GST is collected as Integrated GST (IGST) by the central government, which then shares the state's portion with the destination state.
Use the formula Net = Gross / (1 + GST/100). For example, ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST = 1180 / 1.18 = ₹1,000 net. The calculator does this automatically when you select 'Remove GST' mode.
Yes. Most services attract 18% GST, although a few categories (such as healthcare, education, and certain transportation services) are exempt or charged at lower rates. Restaurant services have their own slab - 5% without ITC for non-AC and select AC, 18% for premium dining and outdoor catering.
GST registration is mandatory if your annual turnover exceeds ₹40 lakh for goods (₹20 lakh for services in most states; ₹10 lakh in special-category states). Inter-state suppliers must register regardless of turnover. Smaller businesses may opt for the Composition Scheme at lower flat rates.
It gives accurate GST and net values for quotations, invoices, and reverse calculation. For final invoices, use it alongside your accounting software to ensure tax codes, HSN/SAC codes, and the CGST/SGST/IGST split are correctly applied for your jurisdiction.
Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) shifts the GST liability from the supplier to the recipient for specified categories - legal services from advocates, goods bought from unregistered suppliers, and certain notified services. The buyer pays GST directly to the government and can usually claim it back as input tax credit.
Yes - registered businesses can claim Input Tax Credit (ITC) on GST paid on purchases that are used for taxable business outputs. Personal expenses and certain blocked categories (motor vehicles, club memberships, certain employee benefits) are not ITC-eligible.
Indian financial products - home loans, fixed deposits, mutual funds, NPS, insurance - each carry their own quirks: monthly reducing balance vs flat-rate interest, quarterly vs monthly compounding, indexation on capital gains, the choice between the old and new tax regime. We design every finance calculator to use the formula that an Indian bank, AMC, or insurer would actually use, and to surface the assumptions in plain English so you can audit the result against your own statement.
Use this calculator alongside the EMI, SIP and inflation calculators to plan your money holistically. A standalone EMI number means little until you compare it with your in-hand salary, your existing debt-to-income ratio, and the impact of inflation on the real cost of the loan. The related-tool grid below makes it one click to chain these analyses together.
The GST Calculator is part of the Finance suite on Online Calculator Tools, alongside 6 related calculators. All tools share the same UI patterns, the same privacy-first rendering (nothing is sent to a server), and the same commitment to showing the formula and assumptions behind every result.
