Future Value Calculator - Calculadora online grátis

Future Value (FV) tells you what an amount of money will grow into over time at a given rate. Add periodic deposits if you want, and the calculator will project both the lump-sum growth and the monthly contribution growth into a single number.

Sobre

Entenda: Future Value Calculator

Future Value is the most-used calculation in personal finance - the engine behind every retirement projection, every goal plan, and every 'what will my SIP be worth' query. The formula is simple, but the implications are vast: a small change in expected return, contribution amount, or time horizon can change the final wealth figure by lakhs or crores. Understanding how each lever affects the FV is the key to making good financial decisions.

This calculator combines a starting lump-sum and ongoing periodic contributions into a single projection. That mirrors how most Indian investors actually deploy money - a one-time amount from a bonus, inheritance or savings, plus a steady monthly addition from salary. Use it to project SIPs, FDs, RDs, EPF, NPS, mutual funds, or any combination thereof.

Como usar

Como usar Future Value Calculator em 5 passos

  1. Enter the present amount you have today (set to 0 if starting from scratch).

  2. Add a periodic deposit if you plan to keep contributing (set to 0 for a pure lump sum).

  3. Set the expected annual rate of return.

  4. Pick the time horizon in years.

  5. Choose deposit timing - beginning of period (annuity due) or end of period (ordinary).

A fórmula

Como funciona Future Value Calculator

The lump-sum component compounds forward at the chosen rate. The periodic deposits use the future value of an annuity formula - each deposit grows for a different number of periods. The total is the sum of both. Beginning-of-period deposits grow one extra period, so they finish slightly higher.

Formula

FV = PV × (1+r)ⁿ + PMT × [((1+r)ⁿ − 1) / r] × (1+r if begin)

  • PVPresent value (initial lump sum)
  • PMTPeriodic deposit
  • rPeriodic rate (annual / frequency)
  • nTotal number of periods
A matemática

Como Future Value Calculator chega ao resultado

The FV calculation is a two-part summation. The lump-sum present value grows as PV × (1+r)^n where r is the per-period rate and n is the number of periods. The periodic contributions grow as PMT × [((1+r)^n − 1)/r], the future-value-of-annuity formula. If contributions are at the start of each period (annuity due), multiply by (1+r) for one extra period of growth on every contribution. The total FV is the sum of the two components.

Compounding frequency matters. Annual compounding (n = years) is the simplest; monthly compounding (n = months, r = annual/12) is closer to how mutual funds, EPF and most modern instruments actually work. For Indian FDs, quarterly compounding (n = 4 × years) is standard. Match the calculator's frequency to the product's actual compounding for accurate projections.

The output is nominal future value. To convert to real (today's purchasing power), divide by (1 + inflation)^years. A ₹1 crore corpus in 25 years has the same purchasing power as roughly ₹23 lakh today at 6% inflation. For retirement planning, the real number is more honest because it tells you what the corpus will actually buy when you need it.

Exemplos

Exemplos resolvidos

PPF maxed for 15 years: ₹0 start + ₹1.5 lakh/year at 7.1%

Annual contribution ₹1,50,000, n = 15, r = 7.1%. FV ≈ ₹40,68,000. Pure tax-free corpus, government-backed. Total contributions ₹22.5 lakh, gains ₹18.18 lakh. Extending another 5 years with the same contribution (PPF allows 5-year extensions) takes FV to ~₹66.6 lakh; one more extension to ₹1.05 crore.

₹5 lakh inherited corpus + ₹20,000/month SIP for 20 years at 12%

Lump-sum FV: 5,00,000 × 1.12^20 ≈ ₹48.23 lakh. Monthly SIP FV: ₹20,000 × FV annuity formula ≈ ₹1.99 crore. Combined ≈ ₹2.48 crore. Total invested ₹53 lakh, gains ₹1.95 crore.

Casos de uso

Quando usar Future Value Calculator

  • Retirement planners projecting how a combination of existing savings (EPF, mutual fund corpus) plus monthly SIPs will grow to age 60.
  • Parents projecting how a one-time education-fund seed plus monthly SIPs will fund a child's college expenses in 15-20 years.
  • FD and RD holders comparing the maturity value of a lump-sum FD vs an equivalent monthly RD over the same tenure.
  • Investors converting an annual bonus into a monthly investment plan and projecting the long-term outcome.
Atenção

Erros e armadilhas comuns

  • Using nominal returns without considering inflation. ₹1 crore in 25 years sounds impressive but buys what ₹23 lakh buys today.
  • Assuming constant returns over very long horizons. Real-world returns vary year to year; the projected number is an average expectation, not a guarantee.
  • Ignoring fees. A 1-2% expense ratio compounds to 25-30% of final corpus over 25 years.
  • Forgetting taxes. Equity LTCG above ₹1.25 lakh/year is taxed at 12.5%; debt is at slab rate.
  • Setting unrealistic return assumptions. 15%+ returns are exceptional; planning around them invites disappointment.
Dicas

Aproveite mais esta ferramenta

  • Always project at three return rates - conservative (8%), expected (11%), optimistic (14%). The range gives you a realistic outcome envelope.
  • Use real returns (nominal − inflation) to see the projected purchasing power, not just rupee figures.
  • Step-up contributions by 5-10% each year. This single change can double the final corpus over 25 years compared to flat contributions.
  • Pair this calculator with the present-value, SIP and inflation calculators on this site for end-to-end planning.
  • For goals less than 5 years away, use conservative rates (6-8%). Equity returns are unpredictable over short horizons.
Perguntas frequentes

Perguntas sobre Future Value Calculator

What is the time value of money?

Money today is worth more than the same amount tomorrow, because today's money can be invested and grow. FV captures the size of that growth over time.

Should I assume a high or low return rate?

Be conservative for planning. Use 6-8% for debt instruments, 10-12% for diversified equity over long horizons. Use a lower rate if you cannot tolerate volatility.

What is the difference between this and a SIP calculator?

A SIP calculator assumes only periodic deposits. The Future Value calculator handles both a starting lump sum and periodic deposits, giving a more complete picture.

When are deposits at beginning vs end of period?

Most SIPs and rent payments are at the beginning of the period (annuity due). Most loan EMIs and quarterly compounding are at the end (ordinary annuity). Beginning deposits grow one extra period.

Does FV account for inflation?

Not directly. To see the real (inflation-adjusted) FV, use the real return = nominal return − inflation in the rate field. The result is then in today's purchasing power.

Are taxes included?

No. FV is pre-tax. Long-term capital gains tax (10-20%) and TDS apply on most products at withdrawal. Adjust the result downward by your applicable tax rate for an after-tax view.

Make confident money decisions

Indian financial products - home loans, fixed deposits, mutual funds, NPS, insurance - each carry their own quirks: monthly reducing balance vs flat-rate interest, quarterly vs monthly compounding, indexation on capital gains, the choice between the old and new tax regime. We design every finance calculator to use the formula that an Indian bank, AMC, or insurer would actually use, and to surface the assumptions in plain English so you can audit the result against your own statement.

Use this calculator alongside the EMI, SIP and inflation calculators to plan your money holistically. A standalone EMI number means little until you compare it with your in-hand salary, your existing debt-to-income ratio, and the impact of inflation on the real cost of the loan. The related-tool grid below makes it one click to chain these analyses together.
