APR Calculator - Kalkulator online gratis

Banks quote a low headline interest rate, then add processing fees and other charges that quietly increase your true cost of borrowing. APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is the all-in number - the rate that actually matters when comparing two loan offers.

APR vs headline rate

The true annual cost is 2.12% higher than the quoted rate of 11% because the bank charges interest on the full sanction but pays you only the net amount.

On short-tenure loans the gap is dramatic. On long-tenure home loans the gap is usually less than 0.1%.

Always demand a full charges sheet from the bank - GST, documentation, valuation and CERSAI fees can add up. Insurance bundled with loans should also be counted in fees if mandatory.

Memahami APR Calculator

APR is the most honest single number for comparing loans, but it's almost never the number banks lead with. They advertise the 'interest rate' - typically the rate at which interest accrues on your outstanding principal - while hiding the cost of processing fees, GST on those fees, legal and valuation charges, and any mandatory insurance premiums in the fine print. APR rolls all of these into a single annualised cost figure, so a 13.5% rate with ₹15,000 of fees on a ₹5 lakh personal loan reveals itself as roughly a 15% APR - meaningfully more expensive than the headline.

RBI's Key Fact Statement (KFS) mandate, in force since October 2024, requires regulated lenders to disclose the all-in cost of credit to borrowers. The KFS shows the APR alongside the headline rate. But this calculator gives you the answer directly - plug in the sanctioned amount, headline rate, tenure and total upfront fees, and you get the true cost of borrowing in seconds. Use it to verify any KFS or to estimate APR before the bank issues the formal document.

Rumus

Cara kerja APR Calculator

The bank's EMI is computed on the full sanctioned amount. But you actually receive only sanctioned amount minus fees. The APR is the rate that, when applied to the net disbursed amount, gives the same EMI you're paying. Solved numerically using the Newton-Raphson method.

Formula

Solve r in: NetDisbursed = EMI × ((1 + r/12)^n − 1) / (r/12 × (1 + r/12)^n)

  • EMIEMI computed on the sanctioned amount at headline rate
  • NetDisbursedSanctioned − processing fee

Bagaimana APR Calculator mendapatkan hasilnya

The APR computation has two stages. Stage one: compute the EMI on the full sanctioned amount at the headline rate using the standard EMI formula. Stage two: solve for the rate at which this same EMI would be the payment for the net disbursed amount (sanctioned − fees) over the same tenure. The solution is the APR - the rate that captures both the interest cost and the fee burden in a single annualised number.

Tenure has a major effect on APR. The same ₹5,000 processing fee on a 1-year loan adds roughly 1% to APR; on a 20-year home loan it adds barely 0.05%. This is why short-tenure loans (personal loans, consumer-durable EMIs, payday loans) are most vulnerable to fee-inflated effective rates - sometimes 4-6% above the quoted rate. Long-tenure loans (home loans, education loans) have APRs much closer to the quoted rate.

What's included in 'fees' for APR purposes is a matter of judgment. Definitely include: processing fee, GST on processing fee, documentation fee, legal/valuation fee, stamp duty on mortgage (for home loans), MOD/MOEM charges, and any mandatory bundled insurance premium. Optional add-ons (life insurance, accident cover) should be excluded if you can opt out. When in doubt, include - better to overstate APR slightly than to underestimate the real cost.

Contoh

Contoh soal

Personal loan: ₹5 lakh, 14% headline, 3 years, ₹12,000 fees

EMI on sanctioned amount: ₹17,090. Net disbursement: 5,00,000 − 12,000 = ₹4,88,000. APR ≈ 15.4% - about 1.4% above the headline. That ₹12,000 fee is effectively 1.4% per year added to your cost.

Home loan: ₹50 lakh, 8.5% headline, 20 years, ₹35,000 fees

EMI on sanctioned amount: ₹43,391. Net disbursement: 50,00,000 − 35,000 = ₹49,65,000. APR ≈ 8.59% - only 0.09% above the headline. Long tenure dilutes the fee impact dramatically.

Kasus penggunaan

Kapan memakai APR Calculator

  • Anyone comparing two or more loan offers - the lower APR is the cheaper loan, regardless of how the rates are quoted.
  • Personal-loan and consumer-durable-loan shoppers especially - short-tenure loans show the biggest APR-vs-rate gaps.
  • Borrowers verifying that the Key Fact Statement provided by the bank matches what they computed independently.
  • Anyone evaluating top-up or balance-transfer offers where fees are non-trivial.
Perhatikan

Kesalahan dan jebakan umum

  • Comparing loans on quoted rate alone. Fees can add 1-5% effective cost; APR is the only honest comparison.
  • Forgetting GST on processing fees. 18% GST on a 2% fee adds another 0.36% upfront cost.
  • Including optional insurance premiums in APR. Only mandatory bundles should count.
  • Ignoring tenure effects. The same fee absolute amount means very different APR impact across short vs long loans.
  • Using sanctioned amount as the basis. Net disbursement (after fees) is what you actually receive and should be the basis.
Tips pro

Manfaatkan alat ini lebih jauh

  • Always demand the Key Fact Statement before signing a loan agreement. Banks must provide it - it shows APR explicitly.
  • Negotiate the processing fee. Most banks have 25-50% room on the fee for good-CIBIL customers who ask.
  • Watch for 'zero processing fee' loans that have higher headline rates. The trade-off may not be in your favour - compute APR to compare.
  • For short-term needs, look for fee-free salary-overdraft products from your bank. Often cheaper than personal loans on APR basis.

FAQ

Pertanyaan tentang APR Calculator

Why is APR higher than the quoted rate?

Processing fees, legal charges and GST upfront mean you receive less cash than you're paying interest on. The APR captures that - the more fees relative to the loan size, the wider the gap.

Should I always pick the loan with the lowest APR?

Generally yes - APR is the apples-to-apples comparison. But also check prepayment terms and customer service. Two loans with similar APR can differ on flexibility.

Is APR mandated to be disclosed in India?

Banks are required to publish processing fees and key fact statements. APR isn't always quoted explicitly but can be computed from the disclosure. This tool helps you do that yourself.

Does APR include insurance premiums?

If insurance is bundled into the loan and made mandatory, include the premium as a fee for a true APR. Optional insurance shouldn't be loaded into APR.

How do small fees affect APR?

On a 20-year ₹50 lakh home loan, a ₹10,000 fee adds barely 0.01% to APR. On a 1-year ₹2 lakh personal loan, a ₹6,000 fee adds 6%+ to APR. Short-tenure loans are most sensitive.

Can APR be lower than the quoted rate?

Only if the bank gives you cashback or pays you upfront - uncommon. In normal cases APR is always at least the quoted rate.

Make confident money decisions

Indian financial products - home loans, fixed deposits, mutual funds, NPS, insurance - each carry their own quirks: monthly reducing balance vs flat-rate interest, quarterly vs monthly compounding, indexation on capital gains, the choice between the old and new tax regime. We design every finance calculator to use the formula that an Indian bank, AMC, or insurer would actually use, and to surface the assumptions in plain English so you can audit the result against your own statement.

Use this calculator alongside the EMI, SIP and inflation calculators to plan your money holistically. A standalone EMI number means little until you compare it with your in-hand salary, your existing debt-to-income ratio, and the impact of inflation on the real cost of the loan.
