Wind Chill Calculator - حاسبة مجانية على الإنترنت

How cold does it really feel? Wind chill captures how fast wind strips heat from exposed skin. Used by meteorologists, hikers, military and anyone planning winter exposure. This calculator uses the modern (2001) NWS formula.

فهم Wind Chill Calculator

Wind chill is the 'feels-like' temperature that accounts for how wind accelerates heat loss from exposed skin. On a calm 0°C day, your body warms a thin air layer near the skin which then insulates you. Add wind and that warm layer is continuously stripped away, exposing your skin to faster heat loss. Result: the same 0°C feels much colder. For Indian users, wind chill matters during winter visits to Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim, and the high-altitude areas of Northeast India where winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing with high winds. Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and UP also experience wind-chill effects in December-January cold waves.

This calculator uses the modern NWS (National Weather Service) 2001 formula, which is empirically calibrated from actual skin temperature measurements at various wind speeds and temperatures. It applies to air temperatures below 10°C (50°F) and wind speeds above 4.8 km/h (3 mph). Below those thresholds, wind chill is essentially equal to air temperature. Useful for hikers planning Himalayan treks (Leh, Spiti, Kedarkantha, Roopkund), motorcyclists planning winter road trips on Royal Enfields (cold + 80 km/h riding wind chill = potentially dangerous), and military personnel posted at high-altitude border outposts.

طريقة الاستخدام

استخدام Wind Chill Calculator في 4 خطوات

  1. Pick units: °C / km/h or °F / mph.

  2. Enter air temperature.

  3. Enter wind speed.

  4. Read the wind chill ('feels like') and frostbite-risk level.

كيف تعمل Wind Chill Calculator

Wind chill formula uses temperature and wind speed empirically calibrated to skin heat loss. Below 3 mph (or 4.8 km/h), wind chill equals air temperature.

Formula

WC (°F) = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275T·V^0.16 WC (°C) = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37V^0.16 + 0.3965T·V^0.16

كيف تصل Wind Chill Calculator إلى النتيجة

NWS 2001 formula: WC (°C) = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37V^0.16 + 0.3965T·V^0.16, where T is air temperature in °C and V is wind speed in km/h. The same equation in °F: WC (°F) = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275T·V^0.16, with V in mph. The exponent 0.16 on wind speed reflects the empirical observation that doubling wind doesn't double cooling - heat transfer follows a power law.

Frostbite risk thresholds: wind chill above -27°C - discomfort but exposed skin safe for moderate periods. -28°C to -39°C - frostbite possible in 30 minutes. -40°C to -47°C - frostbite in 10-30 minutes. Below -48°C - frostbite in under 10 minutes, exposed skin should be fully covered. These thresholds underlie weather warnings issued during severe cold snaps and inform dress code for high-altitude military duty.

Limitations: the formula is valid only for air temperatures below 10°C and wind speeds above 4.8 km/h. Below those, return ambient temperature. The formula doesn't account for humidity, sun exposure (which warms skin), or clothing insulation. For the 'feels-like' temperature in warm humid weather (Indian summer/monsoon), use the heat index calculator instead - that uses temperature and humidity rather than temperature and wind.

Kashmir winter: -5°C with 25 km/h wind

WC = 13.12 + 0.6215×(-5) - 11.37×25^0.16 + 0.3965×(-5)×25^0.16 = -11.0°C. Feels 6°C colder than actual. Safe with proper clothing; cover face and hands for any extended outdoor time.

Bike riding in Delhi winter morning: 4°C with 60 km/h riding wind

WC = 13.12 + 0.6215×4 - 11.37×60^0.16 + 0.3965×4×60^0.16 = -2.4°C. Bike's relative wind from speed creates significant chill. Always wear thermal layers and gloves on Indian winter morning rides.

Leh-Ladakh January: -15°C with 30 km/h wind

WC ≈ -23°C. Approaching frostbite risk threshold. Standard for military deployments and adventure tourism - requires extreme cold weather gear (-30°C rated jackets, balaclavas, gloves).

أخطاء ومزالق شائعة

  • Using wind chill formula above 10°C - formula isn't designed for warm temperatures.
  • Confusing wind chill (cold + wind) with heat index (warm + humidity).
  • Ignoring relative wind from your own motion (biking, riding) - adds to ambient wind.
  • Treating wind chill as actual body temperature - it's a rate of heat loss, not a static temperature.
  • Using mph values in km/h formula or vice versa. Match units carefully.

  • For motorbiking, riding wind adds to ambient wind - 60 km/h riding in 10 km/h wind = 70 km/h relative wind.
  • Cover exposed skin (face, hands) when wind chill drops below -25°C.
  • Thermal layers work by trapping warm air; wind strips this away - use windproof outer shells.
  • For high-altitude winter, factor in low oxygen reducing your body's heat production.

أسئلة شائعة

أسئلة حول Wind Chill Calculator

Wind chill vs feels-like?

Wind chill applies in cold weather. 'Feels like' is a general term that's wind chill in winter and heat index in summer.

Frostbite risk thresholds?

−27°C (−17°F) - frostbite in 30 mins. −39°C (−38°F) - 5-10 mins. −47°C (−53°F) - 2-5 mins. Cover exposed skin.

Why limit to ≥3 mph wind?

Below this, the formula returns wind chill greater than air temp (unphysical). NWS clips to ambient temp at low wind.

Does humidity affect wind chill?

Not in the standard formula - wind chill is mainly a wind + cold thing. Humidity has minor effect via heat capacity but isn't modelled.

Small tools that save real time

Date math, password generation, QR codes, IP subnets, base64 encoding, dew point, dice rolls, age calculations - none of these are 'big' problems individually, but they are the small frictions that interrupt your day. This tool runs entirely in your browser, has no popup, no chat widget and no tracking inside the calculation, so you can finish the task and move on.

Many tools in the Daily Utilities category complement each other - date difference + day counter + day-of-the-week, or password generator + QR code + base64 encoder. The related-tool grid links them together so you can move between adjacent problems in a click.
